QPR Ladies kicked off their new season, but events on the pitch were overshadowed by the sad news of the tragic death of Ray Jones.

After lengthy discussions with the League, the decision was made to play the fixture as a tribute to the R's teenage striker.

Prior to kick-off, both sides observed a minutes silence in his memory, and all players and management from both teams wore black armbands as a mark of respect.

Rangers were slow to start and with it allowed Team Weston to dominate the early stages of the game.

Despite all their early possession, Team Weston failed to really penetrate the R's defence and did not create any chances of note.

The R's gradually began to find their feet and with 20 minutes gone a free-kick by Danielle Richards was met by the head of Mel Bidewell, who saw her effort fly inches past the post.

On the half hour, Richards was put through by Katie Aherne, but fired over from inside the box. Team Weston quickly countered and had their first real effort on target, which was saved by Kirsty Morley in the Rangers goal.

By now Rangers were starting to pile on the pressure, with Richards - after playing a neat one-two with Murphy - seeing her beautiful chip beat the keeper, but drop agonisingly over the bar.

Buoyed by their improved display, the R's enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the second half, only for them to prove profligate time and again in front of goal.

The misses came back to haunt them 10 minutes from time, when having conceded possession all too easily, Team Weston scored against the run of play.

The lead lasted just six minutes though, as Camilla Ray stole a march on her marker to glance home Richards' corner.

Rangers nearly took all three points in added time, but Amy Murphy's cross just evaded the onrushing Bidewell.
