The QPR Prediction Competition
2007/2008 Mini-Season 1
Updated for Season 2007/2008

A Brief History of the QPR Prediction Competition
This is the QPR Prediction Competition, 2007/2008! If you're new to the QPR Prediction Competition, WELCOME!

My name's Elliot Worth and I'm a QPR supporter of over 25 years standing. The QPR Prediction Competition is something I have run and maintained for over 12 years in its internet form. The idea came from a Prediction Competition some of the older R's fans may remember that appeared in the Club Programme for several years and was organised by Derek Buxton.

Initially my version of the online Competition constituted of a single, long table which grew in size as more people entered over the course of the season, but whom of course faced a disadvantage over their rivals who already had a head start. So, in 1997, the Competition was re-designed and split into a series of Leagues and the QPR season split into 4 quarters, each known as a "Mini-Season".

This meant that new entrants to the Prediction Competition had to start from the "Conference League", now the Conference Four League due to the expansion in fans joining in. However, the Mini-League structure gave new entries 4 opportunities throughout the QPR League Season to earn Promotion to higher leagues, thus providing an incentive to keep predicting. The more consistent the Predictor the quicker the trip to the Premier League where you can find the Creme de la Creme of QPR Predictors!

The Competition has come a long way in nearly 10 years. Last season on average, 340 fans from all over the world predicted each game.

So how does it all work? Well, to answer this any any others questions you may have, read the rest of this page which provides instructions, rules and the important scoring system. Good luck!

Match Rules and Joining Method:
  1. One entry per person per match ONLY.
  2. Entries CANNOT be changed once submitted. If more than one prediction is received by the same person the FIRST entry by received date is used when calculating points. Re-submissions are accepted ONLY in the event of a fixture postponement.
  3. Similarly, you are not allowed to change a chosen scorer if he should become unavailable for any reason after you have made you prediction. It is up to you to check on team news and judge whether he will be chosen to play. If a player you wish to choose as a goalscorer is not on the list, please let me know asap and I will add the name.
  4. Predictions must be received BEFORE kick-off - any that are received after kick-off will not be taken into consideration.
  5. You are also able to submit by Text Message. Send your name, league, prediction and goalscorer name to the following number: 07854 813633. You will be charged your standard Text Message fee, this is not a premium rate number. You will not receive receipt confirmation of your prediction.
  6. You must enter your full name when submitting your entry.
  7. Please enter your email address for verification of your identity in the event of any problems.
  8. All new entries must start in Conference Three.
  9. If you do not enter any games for a whole season, or predict 3 or less games and are consequently absent for most fixtures, you will be eliminated. If you wish to re-join the Competition you will have to start again from the Conference Four League. In the event of eliminations, there will be extra promotion places for predictors in lower leagues.
Joining Method:
  1. You can join in the competition at ANY time by simply submitting a prediction for the next game, identifying yourself as a New Entrant for your first prediction.
  2. There is no fee to join, the competition is purely for FUN!
  3. If you know someone who wants to join in but who doesn't have email/web access they can still compete. Just complete the match form using THEIR name and YOUR email address.

Competition Structure Explained:

The Competition took on a more "dynamic" look 8 years ago. Instead of the single, long table, the competition was split into a series of mini-leagues with a Premier (20 predictors), Division 1 (25 predictors), Division 2 (now 50 predictors), Division 3 (50 predictors), Conference One (50 predictors), Conference Two (now 65 predictors), Conference Three (65 predictors) and Conference Four, which grows in size with new entries.

The competition is split into 4 parts, known as Mini-Seasons. The first 2 mini-seasons consisting of 11 QPR games, the final 2 of 12 games. Note, ONLY QPR's Coca-Cola Championship games will count towards the League competition. At the end of each mini-season there will be promotion and relegation. To summarise at the end of each mini-season:

Premier <-> First Division = 5 down, 5 up.
First Div. <-> Second Div. = 10 down, 10 up.
Second Div. <-> Third Division = 10 down, 10 up.
Third Division <-> Conference One = 10 down, 10 up.
Conference One <-> Conference Two = 15 down, 15 up.
Conference Two <-> Conference Three = 15 down, 15 up.
Conference Three <-> Conference Four = 15 down, 15 up.

In the event of non-entries further promotion spots may become available during a mini-season. Once relegation/promotion has been decided, points will be reset to 0 and a new mini-season will begin with the next QPR Fixture.

The Scoring System:

The Scoring System is made up of the following categories:

  1. Result Points
  2. Correct Score
  3. Home/Away Team Goals
  4. Goal Difference
  5. Correct QPR Goalscorer
  6. Bonus: High Scoring Thriller
  7. Bonus: Hat-Trick Hero
  8. Bonus: Prediction Competition 'Extra' (Points are added at the end of a Mini-Season)

The total score you can achieve for an individual fixture is the sum of categories 1 to 7:
Result Points + Goal Difference + H/A Team Goals + Correct Scorer + Bonuses (if any) =
Total
NOTE: Prediction Competition 'Extra' points are only attributed at the end of a Mini-Season.
    Result Points:
  1. Home Win / Away Loss: 2 points
  2. Draw (0-0, 1-1, 2-2 etc.): 3 points
  3. Home Defeat / Away Win: 4 points

    Examples:
You correctly predict QPR to beat Leicester at Loftus Road or QPR to lose to Norwich at Carrow Road = 2 points
You correctly predict QPR to draw with Stoke City (home or away) = 3 points
You correctly predict QPR to beat Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park or QPR to lose to Crewe at Loftus Road = 4 points

Correct Score:
  1. Correct Score: 1 point

    Example:
You predict QPR 2 Scunthorpe 1.
    Actual Result = QPR 2 Scunthorpe 1.
You score 1 point for predicting the correct score (in addition to other relevant points).

Home/Away Team Goals:
  1. Home Team Goals Correct: 1 point
  2. Away Team Goals Correct: 1 point

    Example:
You predict QPR 2 Norwich 1.
    Actual Result = QPR 1 Norwich 1
You score 1 point for predicting Norwich's goal tally.

Goal Difference:
  1. Correct Goal Difference (Wins/Losses ONLY): 1 point

    Example:
    You predict 2-1 to QPR
Actual result is 1-0 to QPR.
    Goal difference 1 goal = 1 point.

NOTE: You only gain this point if you are incorrect with your prediction. If you predicted 1-0 to QPR, you wouldn't get this extra point, only if you predicted 2-1,3-2,4-3,5-4 and so on. This is because you receive maximum points for Home and Away goals and Correct Score (a total of 3 points). The Goal Difference point is a compensation point for coming close to the actual result.
