If ever a season summed up the ever-changing fortunes of Queens Park Rangers Football Club, the 2007/08 campaign was surely it.
The untimely death of teenage star Ray Jones at the start of the season left everyone lost for words, and coupled with the ever-looming threat of administration, Rangers were staring down the barrel of another season to forget.
But the arrival of investors Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, Lakshmi Mittal and co breathed fresh life in to the R's - and with it, new hope.
A 5-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in front of the Sky Sports cameras ended up costing John Gregory his job, and although Caretaker Manager Mick Harford briefly stemmed the tide with a series of impressive results, the new hierarchy opted for an Italian, in the shape of former Siena coach Luigi De Canio.
De Canio worked wonders early on, enjoying a maiden victory against high-flying Hull City, before embarking on a four-match unbeaten run in December.
A narrow defeat at neighbours Chelsea in the FA Cup meant a trip to the new Wembley Stadium would have to wait another year, but the R's continued to impress in the Championship, gradually climbing clear of the dreaded drop-zone, with notable 3-0 victories against front-runners Bristol City and Stoke City.
Martin Rowlands was the star of the show for the R's, with the midfielders' brace in the 4-2 victory against local rivals Watford the undoubted magical moment of the season for R's fans.
His form, coupled with the emergence of new signings Fitz Hall, Akos Buzsaky and Patrick Agyemang to name but a few, not only saw the R's finish in a comfortable mid-table position, but also offered real hope for the future in W12.
