IN RESERVE
Scott Donnelly bagged a goal on his return to Loftus Road, as Aldershot Town ran out comfortable 3-1 winners against a young QPR Reserve side.
The midfielder, who left Rangers last summer, scored from the spot, on a night when another former Rangers player, Gary Waddock, watched on from the stands.
Romone Rose, who made his full QPR debut just two days earlier against West Bromwich Albion on the final final day of the 2007/08 Championship season, notched the R's consolation with a fine individual goal, but Danny Hylton's brace ultimately proved to be enough for the visitors.
It was former Rangers midfielder Donnelly who was gifted with the first opportunity of the match inside the opening five minutes.
Racing clean through a static Rangers backline, the youngster was only denied a dream start by a last-gasp Josh Ford tackle.
The Shots were enjoying the lion's share of possession in the opening exchanges and when Donnelly swung in a corner just 60 seconds later, Hylton saw his header cleared off the line by Billy Coyne.
But there was nothing Coyne, or goalkeeper Reece Crowther for that matter, could do to prevent the visitors from opening the scoring on the quarter hour.
Miles Jones set Hylton clean through and as Crowther darted off his line, the striker slotted a neat side-foot finish into the far corner.
Rangers responded positively though and they were only denied a quick-fire equaliser when trialist Michael Antonio saw his thunderous volley ruled out for offside.
The R's grew in stature as the half wore on, with Ford glancing a close-range header wide, and Stefan Bailey firing over from distance.
Rangers started the second period with renewed vigour and they were rewarded in the 50th minute, when Rose expertly guided the ball past Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.
Buoyed by his goal, Rose stung the palms of Jaimez-Ruiz moments later, only for disaster to strike in the 55th minute, as Crowther brought down Jones inside the box and referee Mr Cooper pointed to the spot.
Donnelly, on his return to Loftus Road, stepped up and calmly sent the R's keeper the wrong way.
Bad turned to worse for Rangers 90 seconds later, as Hylton waltzed past Coyne, rounded Crowther and then had the audacity to feint a dummy or two before slotting home from three yards out.
Shots midfielder Harrison Bayley headed over as the clock ticked down, while at the other end, Antonio fired straight at Jaimez-Ruiz from an acute angle.
