Rangers crashed to 3-1 defeat on the south coast, conceding from a penalty and two set pieces.

In a day of very few positives only the return of Martin Rowlands and Shabazz Badioo's first ever senior goal will come close to warming Rangers fans hearts.

Rangers started the game with Gareth Ainsworth replacing the injured Dean Sturridge. Richard Langley moved into the centre of midfield and Kevin Gallen moved up front to partner Georges Santos.

Plymouth were awarded a penalty after seven minutes when Norris burst through the Rangers defence. He managed to nick the ball past Simon Royce but the players collided and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Royce lay injured for a few minutes before being yellow carded. Royce had saved his previous penalty up at Derby but couldn't stop Paul Wotton's effort that tore into the roof of the net.

Georges Santos was then yellow carded for showing descent to one of the assistant referees as Rangers frustration grew.

Santos

Rangers though were nearly level a couple of minutes later. Kevin Gallen's near post header from a Richard Langley corner was cleared off the line by Buzsaky.

Rangers were denied a goal scoring opportunity on 21 minutes. Georges Santos was ruled offside as Lee Cook was put clean through after running from an onside position.

Royce was called into action on 22 minutes. Chadwick's excellent run finished in a blistering shot that Royce beat away with his legs.

Richard Langley then produced an outrageous piece of skill to bewilder three Plymouth midfielders before releasing Lloyd Dyer who saw his tame cross collected by Larrieu.

Akos Buzsaky who scored a screamer at Loftus Road only last month almost added to his collection when his 35 yard free kick was spectacularly tipped over by Simon Royce.

The home fans were out of their seats when Rangers failed to deal with a corner and Kouo-Doumbe was able to hook the ball in from eight yards.

Ian Holloway made no substitutes at half time but waited only a few minutes before introducing Martin Rowlands. Tommy Doherty limped out of the action to be replaced by Rowlands who made his first appearance since the defeat against Leeds United.

No sooner had Rowlands made his return to first team action, the ball was being picked out of the net again by Simon Royce. Buzsaky's free kick was nodded in by Nick Chadwick.

To Rangers relief Buzasky, who had passed a late fitness test, was replaced soon after. The Hungarian was a thorn in Rangers side all afternoon and Ian Holloway must have been relieved to see him substituted.

Holloway then made two more substitutions himself. Richard Langley and Georges Santos were replaced by Marcus Bean and Shabazz Baidoo.

Baidoo didn't waste any time as with almost his first touch of the ball he pulled a goal back for the Superhoops. Evatt headed a corner goalwards and Baidoo hooked it home from close range. Baidoo's first senior goal!

The goal spurred Rangers on and Kevin Gallen saw a header tipped over the bar. Lloyd Dyer then saw a 25 yarder volley blaze over the bar.

Gareth Ainsworth nearly scored one of his trademark volleys as the game entered injury time. But Rangers didn't really create too many chances in the second half and it was Plymouth who were the happier of the two sides as they beat Rangers at Home Park for the third consecutive season.
