Rangers were denied their first back to back wins since October after an injury time equaliser at Ipswich.
The visitors had the lead for the second time just before the break at Portman Road thanks to goals from Stefan Moore and Paul Furlong.
Furlong put Rangers back in front after Ipswich had pulled level, but it was Stefan Moore's beautiful opener that stole the show.
Moore put the final touch to a well worked move, but it wasn't long before Ipswich equalised.
Jason De Vos headed home Darren Currie's corner, but Furlong put Rangers back in the ascendancy three minutes before the break.
The second half was tame in comparison. Both teams were edgy in their endeavours, not wanting to give the other too much space in the attack.
A tense final ten minutes saw Ipswich throw everything at Rangers and Danny Hayne's 90th minute header was a cruel blow for Rangers.
Ian Holloway decided to stick with the same side as last weekend in the hope that a similar score line will follow.
The only change that occurred was on the bench where the fit again Georges Santos came in for Scott Donnelly.
In midfield there was a slight change to the line up with Langley starting on the left with Rowlands in the centre with Bean.
The visiting fans were on their feet cheering with five minutes gone. Langley's free kick was so close that the Rangers supporters thought it had landed inside of the net rather than clipping the outside corner.
From the resulting dive, Ipswich keeper Lewis Price stayed down and Paul Furlong leapt clear of him.
The referee thought the collision was worthy of a booking though and brandished the yellow card to the Rangers front man.
Moments later, Rangers survived a scare when the ball flew past the face of Simon Royce's goal after a corner.
With the majority of the play in midfield, Portman Road had to wait until the 26th minute for some goalmouth action.
And what action it was! Well, at least it was for the Rangers fans.
Stefan Moore stepped up with a candidate for goal of the season with this well worked goal which started with an exquisite pass on the turn from Langley on the half way line.
Moore picked up the ball and sprinted his way towards the box, squared it for Ainsworth who then played the one-two for Moore to finish with a neat header at the near post.
Rangers then rode their luck at the other end with Ainsworth having to hook clear twice. In between those scary moments, Furlong headed over the crossbar as the ball was about to cross the line.
The pressure finally took its toll when Jason De Vos headed home Darren Currie's corner on 34 minutes.
Ipswich continued to threaten from set pieces and Rangers had to be on their guard at the back.
But it was Rangers who had the last say in the first half when Ainsworth put in yet another pin point ball.
Claiming his second assist of the game, Ainsworth crossed across the face of goal and Furlong was on hand to bundle the ball home past Price at the far post.
The second half started out tentatively, with Rangers apprehensive at pushing too far forward and Ipswich thinking along the same lines.
Marcus Bean did however have a gorgeous chance to pull Rangers further ahead when he stumbled his way through the Ipswich box.
As he bore down on goal, the Ipswich defenders put on enough pressure to nip the ball away from his feet before he could apply the necessary finish.
Langley then fancied his chances with another free kick and went closer this time than in the first half.
He sent the ball dipping a full 25 yards, forcing Lewis to save to his right as the bal made its way goalwards.
Furlong then looked certain to score just past the hour mark after yet another neat build up from Rangers.
Moore cheekily slipped the ball to Ainsworth, selling his marker the dummy and the winger crossed for Furlong.
With Lewis making himself big, Furlong snapped at the shot but Lewis was on hand to palm it away.
Moore was high on confidence by now and suddenly found himself as the only Rangers man in the opposition's half and with the ball at his feet.
With a couple of men to beat, Moore opted to blast a low drive on goal rather than use his pace to beat his markers.
But although the ball weaved between the defence, it failed to hit the target.
The final ten minutes were a tense affair. Ipswich were becoming desperate for a share of the points and Rangers were clinging onto their lead.
It seemed as though Ipswich had set up camp in the Rangers box and the defence had to be constantly aware of the Tractor Boys' aerial threat.
No sooner had the board gone up to show that there would be four minutes injury time, Ipswich applied a heart wrenching finish when Haynes headed home to claim a share of the points for Ipswich.
A truly disappointing finish to what had been a superb fight from Rangers.
